Line crews from the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. have pushed forward with grid restoration efforts across Rota, successfully bringing the total number of energized customers on the island to 442 as of early September.
Restoration progress tracked through early September saw customer reconnections rise incrementally across Feeder 2. Work initially focused on primary distribution lines in Songsong Village spanning from Leadership Park toward Rota Junior/Senior High School.
By Sept. 3, line crews completed restoration along the section extending from Leadership Park to Tonga Cave, continuing work onward toward the local high school. The efforts incorporated substantial infrastructure repairs, with utility personnel installing a total of 37 replacement power poles across the island, comprising 33 poles in Songsong Village and four in Sinapalo II Village. Reconnection progress moved steadily over the multi-day stretch.
After bringing 21 additional customers online to reach 424 energized accounts on Aug. 30, utility teams added another 10 accounts on Feeder 2 in Songsong Village by Sept. 2, raising the active customer count to 442. CUC advised customers operating standalone generators or solar power arrays to ensure their main circuit breakers remain switched off while crews actively energize regional lines to safeguard personnel and prevent system backfeeding.
Utility officials noted that restoration schedules remain subject to adjustment based on weather conditions, field safety factors, operational material availability, and site access. mbj
