Cost.U.Less officially opened its new flagship location in Hagåtña on Aug. 28, marking a major expansion for the retail warehouse chain in central Guam.
The new store features an expanded layout, including a brand-new bakery and deli, expanded fresh meat and produce departments, a larger home and living section, and an expanded beer and wine department. The grand opening festivities included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with a weekend of community celebrations and storewide promotions. The project represents a substantial effort by local employees and support staff across the company’s network to bring the new facility to fruition.
"We've had a lot of great effort by all of our employees that have pulled off an amazing feat to get this store to where it is in a short period of time," said Steve Schmidt, market manager for Cost.U.Less Guam. "It seems like we've taken a long time to build the store, but getting it ready and getting it filled up, we did it in record time to get this presented today." Schmidt expressed gratitude for the collaborative work between internal staff and local partners during the preparation phase.
"I appreciate all my employees and all the support that we have that showed up from our corporate office in Florida," Schmidt said. "I can't say enough about all the support that we've had, not only from our own team, but also from local agencies."

The company, which has served the region for more than 34 years, aims to make shopping more accessible for residents across the island, particularly those residing in central and southern villages.
"We welcome everybody from all over the island," Schmidt said. "I live up north myself, so I understand the drive time, but it's well worth making the trip here to check out our new location." As operations settle in, management plans to adjust inventory and departmental offerings based on customer response and ongoing supply shipments. "As we continue to evolve with our new product line and our expanded perishable departments, we'll continue to fine-tune it until we get it right," Schmidt said. "There's definitely a lot of positives from what we've seen today, but as the new shipments arrive, we'll continue to get better." mbj
