The Joint Venture of Core Tech International, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. Inc. and Kajima LLC was awarded Aug. 20 CHamoru Standard time a $61.58 million “firm-fixed-price, unilateral modification” to a previously awarded contract for the construction of P-649, a joint communications upgrade, at Naval Base Guam and Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.
The award brings the total cumulative face value of the contract to $351,34 million. The contract modification is for the exercise of Option Three for Fiber SONET Rings at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz and Naval Base Guam.
A Fiber SONET Ring is a high-speed, circular fiber optic network that uses Synchronous Optical Network or SONET standards.
It features "self-healing" properties, meaning data travels on a primary path, and if a break happens, traffic instantly switches to a backup path in under 50 milliseconds. Work is expected to be completed by March 2029, and the award was made by Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Marianas and Naval Support Activity at Andersen Air Force Base, according to the release. mbj
