GPA awarded $995K for cybersecurity and connectivity
The Guam Power Authority was awarded a $995,335 grant through a subaward agreement facilitated by the American Public Power Association in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy.
The grant would allow GPA to utilize Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories’s Software-Defined Networking solution. SEL SDN is an Ethernet switch solution for operational technologies, or technology designed to control infrastructure, devices, or physical processes.

GPA said in a release that the technology will allow the authority to monitor, mitigate, and respond to cybersecurity threats within their network.
Additionally, it would also provide added connectivity improvements making it more reliable for critical infrastructures and operations sites to communicate.
GPA’s general manager, John M. Benavente, said in the release, “This grant award demonstrates GPA’s resourcefulness as we work to remain one step ahead of cybersecurity threats.”
This funding follows an additional $2.3 million in OT network cybersecurity grant projects from DOE and other federal partners. mbj
