IT&E showcases AI and business network solutions with Samsung and Calix
IT&E hosted its Connection Table event for its enterprise clients on June 5 at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.
The event was held in partnership with Samsung and Calix, a California based telecommunications company that provides platform, cloud, and management services to a number of broadband service providers internationally.
David Gibson, CEO of IT&E, said at the event that the telecom is “moving away from service and we’re really focusing on experience.”
“That’s really what today is about [it’s] moving beyond circuits and lines and really talking about … some exciting ways that we can enhance those core products so that you have an experience that’s meaningful,” he said.
One of the ways IT&E is looking to enhance its product line is through artificial intelligence with Samsung’s Galaxy AI.
Isabelle Kim, a marketing product manager at Samsung, said at her keynote presentation that the number of generative AI technologies has been on the rise. Samsung estimates that by 2028, AI-capable smartphones will capture 54% of the mobile phone market.
“With Galaxy AI, our vision is to democratize the benefits of mobile AI innovation, so that our users can live and work more efficiently and productivity,” Kim said.
Data from Samsung reports businesses that incorporated generative AI have seen a 45% growth in productivity and a 63% increase in business growth.
Galaxy AI features the ability to live transcribe and translate calls and conversations, refine text, search using images, and edit and generate images from simple sketches.

Use cases for Guam businesses range from managing customer calls and research to providing real-time language translations for the tourism industry.
In addition, Kim touted Samsung’s Knox Vault security on its smartphones which features “government grade security” and encryption to keep data, passwords, and biometric secure.
Victor Carillo, Calix’s regional cloud solution manager, said at his keynote that the company’s SmartBiz solution can provide reliable and secure internet connectivity for Guam’s local businesses.
Carillo, who attended virtually, said that small business owners want to focus on managing their business and are value-conscious and that the system is designed to be comprehensive.
“The SmartBiz solution is purpose built with [business owners] in mind,” he said. [It’s] an experience that really helps fill in the gaps in areas you may not all be experts in.”
For small businesses, Carillo said that 91% of transactions are digital. The SmartBiz system offers separate networks for its staff, customer, and point of sale and cellular back-ups in the event service is disrupted to minimize downtime.
The system is used in conjunction with IT&E’s routers and can be monitored using the CommandWorx app. Carillo said that the app empowers the user through an easy to use self-service network.
The system can also be used to collect customer data through its separate networks.
Through the customer portal, patrons encounter the guest wifi landing page which prompts them to submit their name and email address to use the business’ complimentary Wi-Fi. The business can export the data that the page collects and use it to understand its patron’s preferences.
This feature is also customizable by the business to meet its branding and legal needs.
Carillo also said that SmartBiz has gateway-level cybersecurity. He said that 43% of small businesses have no cybersecurity protections and that 61% experienced a cybersecurity attack in the last year.
According to Calix’s website, SmartBiz fits businesses in different industries, from retail, light industrial, farming, and restaurants. mbj
