On April 30, APL employees picked up trash along Sumay Road during APL’s Adopt-a-Road Cleanup. APL has adopted Sumay Road as part of its commitment to render community service to Guam.
The Andrea R. Ilao Foundation recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jenae Therese Pereda on May 16, 2024. Pereda is working on an associate degree in early childhood from Guam Community College and is currently pursuing Construction trades certificates in HVAC and Plumbing. The Foundation was established in December 2014 by the Ilao family in honor of their mother, Andrea, who left a legacy of civic engagement and philanthropy. To date the foundation has awarded more than $35,000 in student scholarships.
To mark Marianas Tourism Month, the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands conducted a beach cleanup on May 20, 2024. Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan was joined by students at Brilliant Star Montessori School in a cleanup at Micro Beach in Garapan, Saipan, while staff of Pacific Islands Club Saipan cleaned Pakpak Beach in San Antonio. The cleanup was also supported by Mariana Islands Nature Alliance.
Guam Visitors Bureau in collaboration with its tourism partners, showcased Guam's unique charm at the 39th Seoul International Travel Fair from May 9 to 12 in COEX, Seoul. Guam shared with visitors the Color of Guam. Attendees savored 'Made in Guam' coffee and snacks and received giveaways during the consumer event. Cultural performances by Guma’ Taotao Tåno' led by Vince San Nicolas and photo opportunities with the ko’ko’ bird mascot. GVB was also honored with the 2024 Best Performance Award.
The Circle of Care program was established by Pay-Less Markets Community Foundation through a grant from the Guam Cancer Trust Fund. All services provided are free of charge and are available to cancer patients and survivors living in Guam as well as family, friends, and other members of their support team, The program provides cancer support and psycho-oncology services to Guam. Services include, online cancer support group, in person cancer support group and wellness services, and individual and family psycho-oncology counseling. mbj
