“Tropical Storm Bolaven strengthened after passing through the Federated States of Micronesia and is forecast to intensify through Tuesday afternoon, possibly becoming a typhoon,” the Coast Guard said.
The three 154-foot Fast Response Cutters were put out to sea, with other vessels and assets secured, the Coast Guard said.

Craig Browning, external affairs officer for FEMA; spoke at the news conference alongside Babauta. “Our team is here on the ground,” he said. “We do have 200 folks in Guam and another 175 that have been tapped to respond to this event so far.” The team in Saipan is a team of about a dozen management experts, he said. However, he said, all stakeholders are part of the pre-storm preparations. “It takes an entire community,” he said. “The biggest part now is being prepared.” Browning urged residents to document and take photos of any damage, and not to wait for FEMA officials to assess situations.

The Marianas Visitors Authority said there are 1,800 tourists on island, with flights currently cancelled. “MVA has contacted Japan and Korean consulates to provide updates and other information,” the Office of the Governor told the Journal.
