Carrier emphasizes security, stability in Pacific region

USS Carl Vinson, The Philippine Sea — The commander of the U.S. Navy’s Carrier Strike Group I is diplomatic about a mission that has taken his vessels from San Diego to Hawaii, Guam, Manila and the Vietnamese port of Da Nang before taking part in joint exercises with Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Forces, but it would be difficult to conclude that the deployment is purely a training exercise.
