Marshalls telecom service faces key decisions

MAJURO, Marshall Islands — A donor-funded evaluation of the Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority says “urgent measures are needed to improve” all aspects of the country’s monopoly service provider.

The Ministry of Finance, with World Bank support, engaged a seven-person consultant team late last year to oversee an Information and Communications Technology Sector Analysis and NTA Readiness Assessment. Consultants briefed government and private sector leaders at the Marshall Islands Resort in Majuro on Feb. 21 on the findings and recommendations of the preliminary report.
