Marshall Islands legalizes cryptocurrency

MAJURO, Marshall Islands — After a week of intense and sometimes acrimonious debate in parliament, the Marshall Islands Nitijela on Feb. 26 adopted legislation enabling the nation in partnership with an Israeli group to launch a new cryptocurrency, called SOV.

 As a result of the legislation, the Marshall Islands is reportedly the first nation in the world to approve the use of digital currency as legal. The Tel Aviv, Israel-based firm Neema Technologies Inc. followed the legislation action by immediately launching a website to attract customers, The Marshall Islands . . .
