Business legislation focus of Marshall Islands parliament in 2018

MAJURO, Marshall Islands — Multiple bills focusing on business activity were introduced to the Nitijela (parliament) by the Marshall Islands government in January. These include raising “sin” taxes, amending a poorly written law governing a ban on importing plastic bags and Styrofoam and a container deposit law that came into force last year, mandating business discounts for senior citizens and making it easier for foreign investors to increase their scope of business operations.
