CAPITOL HILL, Saipan — The Bureau of Economic Analysis, a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Commerce, released an economic report on the Northern Mariana Islands that included estimates of gross domestic product for 2016 and estimates of GDP by industry and compensation by industry for 2015. The report estimates real GDP increased 28.6% in 2016 after increasing 3.8% in 2015. The private sector was the primary source of growth with the largest contributor being the accommodations and amusement sector, reflecting increased spending by tourists.
