MAJURO, Marshall Islands — Tony A. deBrum, a government minister in several administrations passed away Aug. 22.
deBrum, who was born on Feb. 26, 1945, was a three-time Foreign Minister — most recently until 2016 when he lost his seat in the Marshall Islands Nitijela or Parliament. He also held the positions of Minister of Finance, Minister of Education and Minister-in-Assistance to the President.
During his political career, deBrum served as vice chairman of the Marshall Islands Status Commission, which resulted in independence for the Marshalls, and the signing of the Compact of Free Association with the United . . .
