TOKYO — William F. Hagerty, Washington’s new ambassador to Japan, has said he will visit Okinawa soon after he takes up his post in Tokyo in order to “better understand” problems surrounding U.S. bases in the prefecture.
Hagerty was confirmed as ambassador by the Senate on July 13 and gave his first press conference after Vice President Michael R. Pence administered the oath of office 15 days later.
