DIVEX 2017 removes submerged wreckage around island

ASAN, Guam —Two underwater sailboats and a submerged vehicle were cleared during Diving Exercise (DIVEX) 2017, held from June 12 - 15. Divers from nine Western Pacific Naval Symposium nations and Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas environmentalists spent more than four days to remove submerged sailboats from Apra Harbor, making waters clear for boaters to navigate. The underwater vehicle at Merizo Pier was removed in a timely matter according to the Guam Environmental Protection Agency, posing a hazardous threat to the environment if submerged any longer.
