Okinawa to sue Japan government over Marines base

TOKYO — The local government of Okinawa Prefecture is to sue the national government to demand a halt to reclamation work at the new site earmarked for U.S. Marine Corps personnel presently stationed at Futenma Air Station, a move that might be the prefecture’s final legal gambit.

Okinawa Gov. Takeshi Onaga is planning to unveil the plan to take Tokyo to court over the long-running dispute during a meeting of the prefectural assembly in June.
