The feeling’s not mutual: Guam, Saipan not a priority for Japanese carriers

TOKYO — Despite the best efforts of Guam’s travel industry to convince Japanese airlines that the Pacific islands are a significant business opportunity, none of the nation’s low-cost carriers have plans to open new routes into the region.

Instead of developing routes to beach destinations, operators in Japan are instead catering to 20- and 30-something female travelers who prefer the bright lights, nightlife and shopping opportunities of Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Bangkok and Seoul. 

Guam has flights from six cities across Japan — Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka . . .
