SOUTH CHINA SEA — The Carrier Strike Group 1, which includes the USS Carl Vinson, Destroyer Squadron 1’s guided missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer and aircraft from Carrier Air Wing 2, began routine operations in the South China Sea on Feb. 18.
Prior to these operations, the group conducted training near Hawaii and Guam. The group also had a port visit to Guam before leaving for operations in the Philippine Sea.
The last deployment of the USS Carl Vinson to the Western-Pacific region was in 2015. The ship first operated in the South China Sea . . .
