Futenma relocation plans remain following governor’s D.C. visit

TOKYO — Okinawa Gov. Takeshi Onaga failed to make any headway against U.S. bases in his prefecture during a visit to Washington, D.C.

Onaga set out on his five-day trip on Jan. 31 with the intention of meeting senior members of the new administration of President Donald J. Trump and convincing them of the need to cancel a plan to transfer the functions of the U.S. Marine Corps; Futenma Air Station to an enlarged facility at Camp Schwab, on the northeast coast of the prefecture.
