Employee alleges pregnancy discrimination

Arlene F. Lardingan, a Philippine citizen residing in Saipan, alleges her former employer, Mirage Corp., discriminated against her while she was pregnant. In a complaint filed on Jan. 24 with the District Court of the Northern Mariana Islands, Lardingan claims that as a massage therapist with the company she provided services to customers in indoor areas where smoking was allowed. In March 2013, she informed her employer she was pregnant and provided a medical slip from her physician that restricted her from working in areas that exposed her and the unborn infant to secondhand smoke.

Her assignments were not changed . . .
