Traffic woes in Palau rise as water project continues

KOROR, Palau — An extensive water infrastructure project in Koror has increased traffic congestion and commuting delays between Airai and Koror.

“You can feel people’s frustrations with the traffic out there,” President Thomas E. Remengesau Jr. told reporters during a Dec. 21 press conference. “This needs to be addressed immediately.”

The $17 million project is expected to strengthen the transmission main from Airai Water Treatment Plant to Ngerkosowaol service tank. It will also include the construction of new Malakal tank, the replacement of aging asbestos-cement pipes and the installation of new pipelines . . .
