NAVY HILL, Saipan — The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. of the Northern Mariana Islands issued a dengue fever advisory on Dec. 22 for visitors to Palau as transmission was reported in Palau. Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease similar to Zika and is spread through an infected Aedes species mosquito, commonly found in Palau and in the NMI.
As there is no vaccine available against dengue and no specific treatment for infection, the CHC advises prevention by avoiding mosquito bites by using repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, closing windows and door screens, and sleeping under a mosquito bed net . . .
