House passes Defense bill with NMI provisions

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The House passed on Dec. 2 the Conference Report to Accompany S. 2943 — the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2017, authorizing $619 billion for military activities and construction by the Department of Defense and defense-related activities of the Department of Energy, according to a release from the office of Gregorio C. “Kilili” Sablan, the Northern Mariana Islands representative to Congress.

National Guard language, included at Sablan’s request, directs the secretary of defense to lay out necessary steps for establishing an NMI Guard unit. The bill also includes provisions of $9 million to lease land . . .
