Japanese eye katsuobushi processing in Majuro

MAJURO, Marshall Islands — A Japanese business is expressing interest in establishing a katsuobushi processing plant in the Marshall Islands. Katsuobushi is a dried, fermented and smoked skipjack tuna dish. A group of four Japanese business people visited Majuro in October to look at possibilities. The initial visit was arranged by the Parties to the Nauru Agreement and the Marshall Islands government’s Office of Commerce and Investment.

The group was from Maruhachi Muramatsu Inc., a fish processing company that was established in the Shizuoka area of Japan nearly 150 years ago.
