Local businesses in the Northern Mariana Islands are feeling a squeeze in personnel in the wake of the hiring campaigns of several sizable new employers. Many of the hardest hit have been local hotels.
During an interview with the Journal, Gloria C. Cavanagh, general manager of Saipan’s Mariana Resort & Spa, paused on the phone to respond to a new employee — her daughter.
“As you can see, part of what we’ve been doing to stay competitive and maintain our workforce is hiring family members of existing employees,” she said.
