GARAPAN, Saipan — The Saipan Chamber of Commerce proposed the privatization of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and solid waste management operations as part of its presentation of the Economic Development Roadmap to the governor on Sept. 20.
The chamber stated that privatization, with an emphasis on protecting current employment, will eliminate excessive waste while providing services at a more reasonable cost and making service providers accountable to profiting shareholders.
