Remengesau leads in Palau primaries, Whipps closest challenger

KOROR, Palau — Incumbent President Thomas E. Remengesau Jr. is ahead by more than 700 votes against his closest challenger Sen. Surangel Whipps Jr., according to the unofficial results of the primary election held on Sept. 27.

The Palau Elections Commission concluded the counting for all Palau polling places on Sept. 28 but is scheduled to tabulate the absentee ballots on Oct. 4.

As of Sept. 28, Remengesau had 3,764 votes and Whipps had 2,985 votes. The other two presidential candidates, Antonio Bells and Sandra Pierantozzi, received 239 and 657 votes, respectively.
