SAN JOSE, Saipan — Visitor arrivals to the Northern Mariana Islands increased 63% in August compared to August last year, according to the Marianas Visitors Authority. Arrivals to Saipan, Tinian and Rota registered 48,971 visitors in August, compared to 29,996 in August 2015. The increase is due, in part, to lower arrivals last year following Typhoon Soudelor, according to the release. Overall this fiscal year visitor arrivals are 4% higher compared to the same period last fiscal year.
