Tracking consumer patterns tricky in downturn

If you were driving around the island on the first weekend in May you may have asked "What is going on?"" Parking lots at most of the island's shopping centers were packed. It looked like the final days before Christmas. Was everyone shopping for Mother's Day? Maybe. But perhaps this first weekend in May was special for another reason - paydays for everyone. May 1 was a government of Guam payday as well as a payday for the island's major private businesses. The federal government also paid its workers and released social security payments and food stamps . . .
