In March a ship in Japan full of cement bound for Guam was stopped at the dock for emergency maintenance. An unforeseen peak in cement demand on Guam caused by a large concrete pour at Oceanview condominiums and high construction activity drained Hanson Permanente Cement's 9 000-ton-capacity cement silo at the port of Guam. As Hanson is currently the largest supplier of cement on the island most construction work on Guam involving concrete came to a halt . . .
