Freedom of the press future aims and the front of the phone book

King Jigme Singye Wangchuck has not only moved his Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan to democracy but has also wisely opened his kingdom to a free press. The eight-page Bhutan Today has been out for two months now - and is looking for advertisers. (The population is 700 000 with an estimated literate readership of 12 000 but an optimistic print run of 18 000 copies according to Reuters. I have nothing to share on rates but the cover price is the equivalent of 10 . . .
